1. Gym training

We have the skills, knowledge and experience to teach gym equipment inductions and training sessions to you as an individual or within a group. This includes cardiovascular machines, fixed resistance machines and free weights. We also have the expertise and experience to train you in any environment you wish - from the comfort of your home to the great outdoors.

2. Circuit training

We use various approaches to circuit training, progression, adaptation, safety and the use of equipment. Whether you prefer training individually at your own pace or within a group to music, we'll motivate you every step of the way! If you're a more advanced exerciser, how about trying out SSC/Plyometrics? This particular type of explosive power training can also be incorporated into your sport-specific training programme - see Sports conditioning below.

3. Client appraisal

What are your goals? What are your physical and emotional strengths and weaknesses? How can you overcome the barriers and harness the positives? But most importantly, what are your likes and dislikes? It's important that you enjoy the time you spend training with us and gain maximum benefit from every session. Understanding you and structuring a unique fitness programme that you'll enjoy is our top priority. Your Trainer will gather vital information from you during your initial 90-minute consultation. This enables us to design the safest and most effective training programme based upon your specific goals.

4. Health and fitness assessment

Qualified and experienced in general fitness testing, we offer you a total health and fitness assessment from blood pressure and Body Mass Index (BMI) to more challenging tests such as recovery heart rate and aerobic capacity. We also offer posture analysis and flexibility assessments. There are times when our clients present conditions or concerns that are beyond our scope of knowledge and experience. In these circumstances, with your approval, we will refer you to an appropriate professional (osteopath, physiotherapist, etc) for further observation/examination.

5. Advanced gym training

Now we're talking personal training! We design periodised training programmes to incorporate various training methods and styles to suit your lifestyle and your needs. You'll experience real results with our advanced gym training methods.

6. Exercise nutrition/weight management

A more holistic approach to training is becoming increasingly important to more and more people. The principles of healthy eating and weight management in relation to exercise and energy balance are explored for you, the individual. This includes solutions for fat loss as well as muscle bulk. Complete your 3-day nutrition diary and see the results for yourself. How do your daily eating habits compare to the healthy eating pyramid? Would you like to know more about low G.I. and low fat? At PPUK we offer you a wealth of information on diet and healthy eating.

7. Boxathletics

Fitness boxing is an excellent way to challenge and condition your body. While having fun, you will be developing balance, eye-hand-foot co-ordination, burn calories (up to 900 an hour depending on your weight and boxing skill), decrease stress and improve your self-esteem. Our Trainers will have you fighting fit and combat confident in no time at all!

8. Additional activities and environments

If you're not close to a gym or don't feel comfortable visiting one, our Trainers are qualified and experienced to train you in the comfort of your own home, in your hotel room, in your office, in the park - anywhere! This is the ultimate, accessible fitness option. If deemed appropriate, elastic resistance training (ERT), self-myofascial release (SMR), the three walking levels and running methods are also explored to enhance your exercise programme.

9. Distance training programmes (DTP)

Do you travel often on business? Do you live or work out of London? Have you ever thought of having a DTP designed so that you can train at your convenience in an environment most comfortable for you? After an initial one-on-one consultation, we will design your weekly, monthly or annual periodised programmes and post, email or fax them to you. This is an ideal option if you require the advice and expertise of a fully qualified and recognised personal trainer but cannot find such a trainer in your area - or perhaps you prefer to train alone with limited guidance. Many of our clients request DTPs to take on vacation with them so that they can stay on track with their programme by doing safe and effective routines designed with their specific requirements in mind.

10. Personal training facility

We know that, for whatever reasons, many people prefer to train away from the public eye in a private facility. Therefore, we offer all of our personal training clients the opportunity to train one-on-one with their PPUK Trainer in our private, fully equipped cardio and free weight studio at Power House in East London. That's right - there's no need to join a gym! Equipment at our personal training facility includes: Cross-Trainer (elliptical machine), dumbbells (1-25kg), barbells (>160kg), Swiss balls (55cm & 65cm), medicine balls (3kg-8kg), large flexibility mat, flat-incline-decline bench, step... and more! Click here to see our personal training facility.

All PPUK Trainers are fully trained and qualified, and hold a current certificate in First Aid (Health and Safety Executive approved). Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), medical emergencies, bleeding, burns and practical bandaging skills all contribute to each Trainer's qualification.

Every PPUK Trainer is committed to continuous professional development (CPD) with the aim of offering you a service that is second to none. The additional knowledge and experience our Trainers gain each year is beneficial to all of our clients - from individuals who want to get fit and healthy to sportsmen and sportswomen who want to take themselves to the next level. As a company we encourage our Trainers to regularly update their knowledge and learn new skills so that our ultimate goal of Developing your Mind, Body and Spirit is achieved.

Insurance

For your peace of mind, every PPUK Trainer is fully insured and holds a current certificate.

11. Special Populations

  1. Pre/antenatal and postnatal clients: You will experience significant benefits by exercising throughout a normal pregnancy, and continuing your activity programme after a successful 6-week postnatal check-up. Please contact us today to set up your initial consultation. Stephen is a member of the Guild of Pregnancy and Postnatal Exercise Instructors.
  2. Older Adult (Clients aged 50+): You're never too old to begin an activity programme. The benefits of remaining active can make a major contribution towards maintaining independence and gaining maximum enjoyment in later years. We understand many of the conditions associated with the ageing process and how these conditions can affect you and your ability to exercise.
  3. Clients with Diabetes: If you suffer from Type 2 Diabetes, exercise alone can treat your condition by increasing your body's sensitivity to insulin. We'll design a fantastic programme for you that will incorporate light to moderate cardiovascular activities, mild resistance training, and stretching exercises. We train both Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetics and we’re a professional member of Diabetes UK.
  4. Obese, de-conditioned individuals, and those interested in weight control: In November 2006 Stephen designed and presented the LighterLife Men's Fitness DVD, an advice and activity DVD for men who have 3 stones or more to lose. He is also a regular contributor to LighterLife Magazine which is sold and distributed throughout the UK. Check out www.lighterlife.com for further information.
  5. Clients who desire sports conditioning: We trained a client for the London Flora Marathon in April 2006 and she did fantastically well. Please read her Testimonial.
