Training
'Here is the news' is a 10 week project designed to build self confidence and give a voice to young people in schools. The programme has been designed to work with ages ranging from year 5 to year 13 - (9 to 18 year olds) Here is the News is a multi media programme for young people using cameras, drama, role-play and computers to present interesting items to feature in a weekly news broadcast to be played in assembly. The PPUK team work with the pupils on a weekly basis for 10 sessions with the final four sessions working on 5 minute 'Newsround' style features to be played in assembly. The 10 session include the following: - Using Drama and Role Play to express thoughts and ideas that are important to the pupils in the school.
- Looking at serious issues that affect pupils in the school such as Bullying, Peer Pressure, Underachieving, etc, as well as celebrating things the pupils do well.
- Presentation Skills
- Camera Work
- Making a news item
- Filming on location
- Questionnaire design
- Interviewing skills
- Making a 5 min film or documentary
- And More!!
The 'News Team' would make their first broadcast and use themselves as the subjects, this would progress to them doing featured reports on other pupils in the school, issues that affect pupils in the school, reports from teachers and other staff, celebrating achievements, up and coming events, report backs from school trips, and even the weather for the weekend!! The school would be left with a 'News Team' on location who would carry on the assembly broadcasts throughout the year. (For
older pupils this could be done as a two day workshop)
